Advocacy and the NDIS
For the purposes of confidentiality we’ve changed the names of anyone mentioned in the original story.
Ben, who is a wheelchair user due to his degenerative neurological condition, applied and received approval for a motorised wheelchair. However, after waiting for three months, Ben still didn’t have his motorised wheelchair. Ben struggles daily with manoeuvring his old broken down manual wheelchair and as a result cannot leave his home as often as he would like. This has left him feeling isolated and frustrated.
Ben sought MDAA’s advocacy assistance to deal with the NDIA and an Individual Advocate made enquiries with the NDIA about the wheelchair. As a result, the NDIA acted quickly, and so the Advocate was informed that the wheelchair had finally been ordered and was promptly delivered to Ben’s home.
